Mitchell played her first major movie role on The Crow: City of Angels in which she played teenage drug addict Grace. While filming The Crow in 1996 she auditioned as a child actress for the part of Mary Camden in a new family drama 7th Heaven. She was initially declined by producers as she was not fit the part of Mary. If she was able to audition for Lucy and was accepted, she got the role immediately. 7th Heaven was very popular lasting for 11 seasons.
